Specialty Peony Cut Flowers
Flower of happiness….
For more than a century, Peony Cut Flowers has been the beloved ones to celebrate weddings and special occasions. How to explain this long love story?
Huge flowers of a magnificent beauty, a long vaselife (twice than roses), very long stems and an excellent capacity to hold in cold storage and during transportation. That's it! All these sought after qualities explain the attraction of florists and futures brides for this exceptional flower.
OUR PEONY FARM
My name is nom Mano Capano. I am the owner of the peony farm <<Pivoines Capano>>; little farm dedicated to the culture and breeding of peonies. Our fields are located in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region of the province of Québec, Canada. We grow over 450 different varieties, the majority beiing dedicated to the sale of bare roots divisions for gardeners in the fall. However, a growing part of the business is now devoted to the culture of peony cut flowers for the <<Specialty cut flowers market>>. Actually, we have many peony fields dedicated to the peony flower market, some will be in full production in the future. So, our choice and varieties will grow in the next future.
Our peony farm being located far North, this allows us to harvest our peony flowers later in the season, whereas blooming is over elsewhere in North America. From mid-June to mid-July, we offer fresh daily cut peony flowers. For those needing peonies for celebrations later in the season, our peonies can be safely stored in our customers cold storage many weeks after the end of the bloomimg season. We also have very early blooming peonies available around the first weeks of June but quantities and choices are limited.

Our peony flowers are cut at <<bud stage>> to ensure a good vaselife and to ease storage and shipping. Some varieties are harvested with almost open buds to garantee a safe opening of the flower whereas some others, buds are cut at a less advanced opening stage.
When cut a bud stages, peony flowers will take between 24-72 hours to fully open at room temperature. Simple, semi-double and japanese flower forms will generally open within 24-48 hours after beeing taken out of cold storage. Double and bomb type flower forms take a little longer. That's a very important element to consider when planning your event. If you would need flowers fully open or at a precise opening stage, please, contact us.
Our flowers are packed in bunch of 10 stems/bunch. Each bunch is identified with the precise name of the peony flower. We sell short stems (6 inches long) and long stems (15-18 inches long) peony cut flowers. Short stems are very useful for <<corsage bouquets>> and table center at a lower cost.
We are peony specialist and we offer an impressive choice! In our peony field for cut flowers, we sure grow the great classics and the preferred by florists like Sarah Bernard, Festiva Maxima, Coral Sunset etc.

FORMS & COLORS
Within the great peony family, you can get a whole range of flower forms, foliages and colors. You will find below general informations about peonies very useful in the floral industry. I would also recommend a look at the other sections of this website, particularly those on Culture and Extended blooming for more details about peonies.
Flower forms
Simple, semi-double, double, bomb type or japanese flower forms.. The peony flower form is important in the floral industry. Generally, simple and japanese peony flowers has a shorter vaselife than the big doubles. However, their beauties can create spectacular effects in floral arrangements needing a less longer vaselife. For a more complete description of a peony flower with its different forms, please consult our section about <<Culture>>

Colors
There is many more colors in the peony world than the usual pink, red and white. A wide array of colors. Surprising new colors, contrasting colors, pures colors, changing colors or even contrasting flares. All of these could be used for creative floral displays and arrangements. You can play the colors with peonies as cut flowers!

New colors like coral, yellow and dark chocolate red .... |
Foliages
The fernleaf peony (Tenuifolia) and its numerous hybrids wear a splendid foliage that deserves to be more known and used in floristery. Finely cut, this foliage gives an elegance touch and could easily replaced the traditional foliages in floral arrangements. Available very soon in the season (June)

FLOWER CARE
We cut our flowers early in the morning or in late afternoon and put them quickly in cold storage. They are cut at the soft bud stage or marshmallow stage in order to assure their full development in a beautiful flower. They are kept in cold storage until expedition to the customers.
Upon reception of our peony cut flowers, recut the stems underwater (warm water) and put them in a clean plastic pot containing one inch of flower food (Floralife or other). Keep them in cold storage until you will be ready to develop the flowers. Save at least 48 hours for a complete opening of the flowers.
|
|
|
Beauté d'un bouquet de la fleur simple hâtive <<Athena>> |
Take your flowers outside of the cold storage. Recut the stems underwater and place them in a clean plastic pot containing one inch of flower food (Floralife or other). Let the flowers open keeping the container away from a direct source of heat. You are now ready to manipulate the flowers and prepare your floral arrangements.
Vase life depends on many different factors. Generally, semi-double and double forms will have a vase life of about a week under proper conditions. Peonies with Japanese and single flower forms and the new varieties like the intersectionals (Bartzella et Garden Treasure) and the corals (Coral Charm & Coral Sunset) has a shorter vase life (about 3 to 5 days).
The longer you will keep the flower at cold temperature, more you will extend their vase life. So, take your floral arrangements out of the cold storage only few times before the event and try to avoid placing them close to a direct source of heat or sun. If your event lasts for more than a day, keep your floral arrangements in cold storage during the night.
Enjoy!
